The core values of Pure Global are shaped and supported by the Christian faith of the founders.

History

Pure Global Ltd was founded in the United Kingdom in 2003 by Robert Orford to develop a breakthrough innovation for improving mobility through better wheelchair propulsion that is now known as NuDrive. Robert developed a passion for helping to bring more freedom to those in wheelchairs while volunteering for a youth disability charity called PHAB. Robert devoted his A-Level design project to developing a solution for wheelchair propulsion and went on to win the Audi Young Designer of the Year Award in 2002.

What gave Robert the motivation to take this forward was seeing the impact an early prototype of NuDrive had on a young friend, Emily Steward. With the prototype Emily was able to tackle environments that were beyond her reach before. Emily's verdict? "It is a lot easier to get up slopes with NuDrive, I can sit up straight, I don't have to strain and I can get more power behind the stroke. It helps me keep going for longer." With this incentive Pure Global was born.

In 2005 Pure Global partnered with one of the UK's leading design consultancies, London Associates (LA). LA was recently ranked as the top product design consultancy in the UK in the Design Business Association's product effectiveness league tables. The company has a long and successful history of working with medical and technological products. At the same time, Pure Global partnered with the Aspire Centre for Disability Sciences at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. These partnerships have driven the product forward, allowing NuDrive to be developed using cutting edge design techniques and with regular feedback from research groups, ensuring a high level of medical efficacy. When the final commercial prototype was launched in Germany last year, Peter Gage, Chairman of the NHS National Wheelchair Managers' Forum, said "As time passes we see advances made as small progressions with very few leaps forward. This concept design represents one of those leaps."

Pure Global is a member of the British Healthcare Trades Association.
